How to make a Christmas Eve box from things your family already owns: pyjamas, a book, a movie, snacks and one shared ritual.

The modern Christmas Eve box is often marketed as another present. It does not need to be. Use the same box every year and fill it mostly with things that already belong to the household.

Put in a favourite Christmas book, the same mugs, a board game, a handwritten note about the evening plan and perhaps one consumable treat. The point is not the box. The point is announcing that ordinary time has finished and Christmas Eve has started.
